A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE BREED
Royal White Sheep are hair sheep, rising in popularity due to their parasitic resilience, high prolificacy, and amazing heat tolerance. The Royal White breed is characterized as a meat sheep that is easy to manage, matures quickly, and breeds year round. It's everything you could want in a sheep without the hassle. No shearing. No tail docking. No Problem!
Frequently Asked Questions
WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE SOME SHEEP HAVE WOOL?
During winter months, Royal White Sheep grow a heavier coat to protect themselves against colder weather. In the spring, the sheep will shed these extra layers of hair in preparation for warmer weather. This sometimes mimics the appearance of wool.
WHEN SHOULD I WEAN?
Lambs mature quickly and should be weaned three months after birth. It is important to remember that Royal Whites reach sexual maturity faster than many other breeds of sheep, therefore, rams and ewes should be separated at weaning to prevent inbreeding.
HOW OLD SHOULD A LAMB BE BEFORE BEING BRED?
While both ewes and rams are considered sexually mature at six months, it is suggested that both sexes should be at least one year of age before breeding. Breeding before one year of age can increase the possibility of dystocia, reduce prolificacy in future years, and increase the chance of mortality.
